Welcome to my universe

I photograph the hour when a place stops performing. Born in Trieste, working between London and Copenhagen, almost entirely on film and almost entirely alone.

Three bodies of work

Nothing is shot in parallel. A series is finished, edited cold and put away before the next one is allowed to start, which is why there are only three of them.

  • 03 Bodies of work Vermilion City, Salt Meadow and Hollow Light. Each one closed before the next was allowed to open. Format 4×5 large format · 35mm rangefinder
  • 04 Years 2021 to 2025. The same forty minutes of light, returned to week after week until the place gave something up. Process Hand developed, scanned at 8000 dpi
  • 11 Cities London, Copenhagen, Osaka, Trieste, and seven more that never quite agreed to be photographed. Stock Portra 400 · HP5 Plus · Ektachrome 100

The print

It begins as blank paper.

How a picture gets found.

  1. A photographer scouts a coastal path without a camera
    01

    Walk it first

No camera on the first pass. If a place is worth photographing it will still be there tomorrow.

    One pass · No camera
  2. A photographer waits beside the sea for the light to change
    02

    Wait for the hour

Every location has one. Most of the work is knowing which one, and being there for it.

    Forty minutes · Returned to
  3. A single roll of medium-format film being loaded into a camera
    03

    Shoot less

A roll a session. The constraint is the method, not a limitation of it.

    One roll · Thirty-six frames
  4. A contact sheet being reviewed on a light table
    04

    Edit cold

Nothing gets selected for a month. Distance is the only honest editor.

    Four weeks · Then chosen
